Alex Mackie recently had his first paper accepted for publication in Materials Letters. It is a brief study in collaboration with Johnson-Matthey, using Electron probe micro-analysis to see if carbon is taken into the sample during the SPS process and if so, where and how much. It is compared with a conventionally processed sample and found that there are higher levels of carbon at the surface of the SPS processed sample and to a greater depth than in the conventionally processed sample, but the levels of carbon are not thought to be significant to affect the magnetic properties.
